R tutorial posted, complete before next class

Dear all,

I’ve posted the R tutorial on Blackboard under Assignments. Please complete it before next class. The course claims it should take no more than 2-3 hours to complete, although it can probably be completed in less time.

Do not worry if you some of the things in the tutorial are unclear. This tutorial is for helping you to become more familiar with using R by running commands and seeing what the outputs are. Just the act of typing in the commands helps to jump-start the process of learning how R works. Many of the concepts, especially in the later tutorials, will be revisited in upcoming classes.

And, as a reminder, remember to think about remaining questions in the Can Twitter Predict Election Results? exercise (under Course Content), in particular questions 3, 4, 5, 6 under the Read the article like a scientist section and question 1 under the Study replication section. After Wednesday’s class, you will be asked to type up your thoughts to these questions over the weekend. On Monday, we will upload these to Github in a demo on how to submit a completed homework assignment.

Sincerely,
Dr. Glasbrenner
